Top 5 Art Supplies As A Working Illustrator

I've been a professional illustrator for almost 10 years now and while I generally work from my iPad Pro, I love creating illustrations with traditional media too. I find that it helps my creative process because it allows me to stay playful, curious, and inspired.

Here are some art supplies I've been loving lately!

Posca Paint Pens

These are so fun to play with and you can use them on so many different surfaces!  I've painted on cardboard for decorations, tote bags, and wooden Christmas ornaments. I love the vibrant colors and ease of use! I really want to make a window display with them someday.

You can view some of my original posca pen art here.

Holbein Acrylic Gouache Paints

This palette was made by one of my illustrator friends Rebecca Green and I am in love them!! I hadn't worked with gouache before, but it's quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. Many established illustrators love gouache because of how it works with water and how easily it can be layered. It also dries quickly, which I love as an impatient artist!

Caran D'Ache Colored Pencils

I was inspired to get these because my favorite illustrator, Nina Cosford, uses them regularly. These draw super smooth lines and the colors are very vibrant. Some other brands I've used don't always end up matching the color based on the description, but these are very reliable.

Tombow Duel Brush Pens

These are another favorite from Nina Cosford and I can see why! I love how versatile they are - they come with two brush tips for different opacities and textures. They are great for quick warm up sketches, like the one above.
